A great start to Year 3 - Lowry Portraits
Date: 29th Sep 2021 @ 7:26am
Once again, a very warm welcome to all the children and parents into Year 3. What a wonderful first few weeks we have had. I honestly cannot remember a time when a class has settled in so quickly. They are already showing me what a group of enthusiastic children they are; so keen and ready to learn all the new things that life in Year 3 brings. I am immensely proud of every single one of them.
During the first week, we drew self-portraits in the style of L.S. Lowry. We used pencil and pencil crayon to complete them.
A local artist, Lawrence Stephen Lowry was born in Stretford, Manchester. He is one of the most popular British artists of the 20th Century.
Lowry studied his art in Salford and fell in love with the towns in the north west of England.
He is famous for painting industrial landscapes on the North of England, including Salford.
Lowry also painted stick figures known as matchstick men and painted very distinctive portraits too. We have based our own portraits on two of Lowry’s pieces called ‘Head of a Man with Red Eyes’ and learned how to draw faces that are proportionally accurate.
I think you’ll agree, they are absolute masterpieces.
