Our Approch
At Wardley CE Primary School, we believe that the mental wellbeing of our pupils is key to developing happy, inquisitive learners who are able to face challenges in a positive and proactive way. As members of the Salford Thrive in Education programme, we actively embrace a whole school approach aimed at fostering the thriving of our pupils. This commitment is reflected in our three-tiered graduated approach dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils.

Tier 1 Core provision
Tier 1 Core Provision is a comprehensive, school-wide approach designed to ensure that each child receives the maximum benefit from a diverse range of evidence-based practices. This includes:
Weekly Personal, Health, and Social Education (PHSE) Lessons
Taught through our Department for Education (DfE) approved scheme, Jigsaw, these lessons provide essential life skills to every child.
Mindfulness Sessions
All children partake in mindfulness sessions conducted by our dedicated and trained mindfulness teacher, fostering a sense of self-awareness and emotional wellbeing.
Therapeutic Storytelling
Our school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) approves quality storybooks, incorporating therapeutic storytelling as a valuable tool for emotional development.
Wellbeing Days
Aligned with the NHS-approved 5 Ways of Wellbeing, our Wellbeing Days offer holistic experiences to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional wellness of our pupils.
Assemblies
Regular assemblies provide a communal platform for addressing key well-being topics, creating a shared understanding and commitment to emotional health within our school community.
Tier 2 Core Provision
Tier 2 Core Provision is tailored to address the specific needs of individuals who may be grappling with short-term challenges or vulnerability resulting from life experiences, such as separation or bereavement. Our offerings include a range of therapeutic interventions aimed at providing targeted support:
Lego Therapy
Engaging in Lego Therapy offers a constructive and collaborative platform, allowing individuals to express themselves, build connections, and develop essential social skills.
Drawing and Talking Therapy
Utilizing the expressive nature of art, Drawing and Talking Therapy provides an outlet for individuals to communicate and process emotions, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-discovery.
Sand Play Therapy
Sand Play Therapy provides a unique and symbolic medium for self-expression, allowing individuals to explore and articulate their feelings in a safe and creative space.
Mindfulness Meditation
Incorporating mindfulness meditation promotes emotional regulation and resilience. It empowers individuals to develop a heightened awareness of the present moment, facilitating coping mechanisms for life's challenges.
Group Work
Incorporating group work emphasizes the collaborative aspect of the Tier 2 Core Provision, providing individuals with opportunities to share experiences, build connections, and learn from one another in a supportive and empathetic environment.
Tier 3 Core Provision
Tier 3 Provision is tailored for situations where children require a more customised approach, especially if their needs are more acute or if tier 2 support has not yielded the desired effectiveness. This may encompass challenges such as being a young carer, navigating a family breakup, or witnessing domestic violence. The nature of support in these cases varies on a case-by-case basis. Our school collaborates closely with external agencies, including educational psychologists, to ensure the delivery of the most appropriate and effective support for the children and families involved.
