Art in Year 3
Lowry Portraits
Once again, a very warm welcome to all the children and parents into Year 3. What a wonderful week we have had. The children are settling in so well and I am immensely proud of every single one of them.
During this week, we have drawn self-portraits in the style of L.S. Lowry. We used pencil, pencil crayon and chalk to complete them.
A local artist, Lawrence Stephen Lowry was born in Stretford, Manchester. He is one of the most popular British artists of the 20th Century.
Lowry studied his art in Salford and fell in love with the towns in the north west of England.
He is famous for painting industrial landscapes on the North of England, including Salford.
Lowry also painted stick figures known as matchstick men and painted very distinctive portraits too. We have based our own portraits on two of Lowry’s pieces called ‘Head of a Man with Red Eyes’ and 'Portrait of Ann' and learned how to draw faces that are proportionally accurate.
I think you’ll agree, they are absolute masterpieces.
