Food Technology in Year 3
Date: 8th Feb 2025 @ 1:03pm
In this week's Design and Technology, the children made Fruity Rocky Road treats.
The children remembered the importance of a balanced diet and could put each ingredient into the correct food group.
They also were reminded that the body needs sugars and fats but to limit our intake because too much can make us unhealthy.
We studied ways that fruit is preserved, like refridgeration, freezing, stewing, drying and canning, so it can be eaten even when it is out of season.
They also studied the history of Rocky Roads and read about the job of a famous chocolatier.
We all made sure our hands were clean before we went to work too.
The children worked well in their teams and thoroughly enjoyed this food technology session.
Here is what they thought:
'The wet mix looked and smelled delicious.'
'We worked well as a team and helped each other spoon the mixture into cake cases.'
'We learned about ways fruit is preserved such as freezing, refidgerating, stewing and drying so it lasts longer.
Here's what the children thought:
'My favourite part was mixing all the dry ingredients like strawberries, sultanas and raisins.'
'Deciding on the right ingredients to make it tasty was fun.'
'I learned that Joseph Draps was a famous chocolatier from Belgium and he makes the best chocolate in the world.'
'We had to break dark and milk chocolate into smaller pieces then heat it in the microwave.'
'The best day of my life...EVER!'
'We were shown how to carefully fold the ingredients into the chocolate.'
The children expressed their wishes to have a go at their own Rocky Road recipes at home. Please come and tell me all about your culinary adventures and don't be afraid to bring in a sample for me to taste.
Well done chefs!
