International Day of Mathematics - 'Pi Day'
Date: 17th Mar 2025 @ 5:22pm
On Friday 14th March - or 3.14 as it is recognised around the world, our pupils celebrated the International Day of Mathematics.
At Wardley, we understand the importance of maths in everyday life. Our children perform extremely well in all aspects of mathematics and leave our school with a solid grasp of the fundamental teachings in preparation for high school.
On Pi Day, we decided to have some fun with maths as this year's theme was 'Mathematical Pattern'.
Pupils in Years 1 - 6 were challenged to use geometry to create intricate and interesting patterns.
It was a tough decision but each teacher was able to select 2 winners from each class to receive a special certificate and maths set which was presented in our whole school collective worship.
We also held out annual 'Pi Challenge' whereby pupils have a go at reciting the pi digits to as many decimal places as possible. We had 13 children from our junior classes taking part and all received a certificate for their efforts. Standing up in front of the entire school to recite digits is not as easy as it sounds! We were super proud of all those who took part.
A special mention to our 'Pi Champions' - Anna in Year 5 who recited pi to 62 decimal places and Charlie in Year 6 who recited pi to 101 decimal places! I am sure we have a school record there that will be very difficult to beat!
Take a look at our wonderful photos to see our mathematic champions. Well done to all of our pupils for their enthusiasm and participation on the day.
