School Tour

Welcome to Wardley CE Primary School

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: EYFS New Starters Welcome

Welcome to our school – normally we would have the opportunity to welcome you in person but, sadly, that is not currently possible. So, we have put together this virtual welcome to try and give you as much information as we can, to help prepare you and your children for what we hope will be a very exciting start to school.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you on making a great choice in sending your child to our school. They will be joining a wonderful setting and becoming part of a very special school community.

It is the start of their educational journey, and we will do everything that we can to ensure it’s an enjoyable and memorable time for each and every child.

We have an outstanding EYFS setting, with wonderful staff, which is going to get your children off to the best possible start. We understand what a massive step leaving them with us in September is going to be for you. However, I can assure you at the heart of what we do is making sure they are safe, happy and cared for. Our staff will go the extra mile to achieve that, and I see this within their classrooms day in and day out.

The early years are a wonderful time in a child’s development. You can really see the steps forward the children take as they master new skills and grow in themselves as young people.

I have two boys – the oldest is just finishing his second year studying mechanical engineering at university. I still remember dropping him off at nursery for his first day many, many years ago. The staff said in his end of year report that he had an interest in mathematics, and all this time later it has to be said that they were right! The first foundations are laid during these crucial years on which their lives will develop.

We are very lucky to have the staff to ensure this happens –Mrs Flanagan, is our outstanding early year’s leader and Nursery  teacher.  She is supported by two of our long standing and experienced EYFS teaching assistants – Mrs Conlon and Mrs Marshall.

Miss Hargreaves is our excellent Reception class teacher. She has been with us for over eight years. She is supported in class by one of our teaching assistants, Mrs Prinn, who again brings with her lots of experience within school.

I would like to emphasise that we see the partnership between home and school as being central to our work in the early years. We very much look forward to the opportunity to working with you, and actually meeting you and your children. However, in the meantime please get in touch with us via the school office if you have any questions about the coming year.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Foster,

Head teacher.

Nursery

Our Nursery is a safe and secure environment where children feel confident to explore their surroundings, build positive relationships with those around them and to develop as individuals. By filling each day with memorable activities and stimulating learning experiences, we encourage the children to be curious and inquisitive within the setting.

Reception

Our Reception classroom is a welcoming and happy environment that enables children to develop across all areas of their learning. We have lots of opportunities for independent learning and the children enjoy exploring the different parts of our classroom. We promote an environment where children feel comfortable to persevere when they find something challenging and we celebrate achievements together.

Year 1

Year 1 is a happy smiley and friendly place with a positive and tangible energy of its very own. In here, we work as a team to learn and support each other in everything that we do.

Our school motto is ‘We can do all things’. While we try and do all things, we make lots of magical mistakes, which are proof that we are learning. Mistakes help us to improve our work and flourish so we are able to reach our full potential.

Together with the support of parents/carers we ensure Year 1 is a successful, enjoyable and exciting place for all children to thrive.

Year 2

Hello and welcome to Year 2,

My name is Mrs MacKay and I am currently the Year 2 teacher.

We work extremely hard in Year 2 but we also have a fabulous fun-filled time throughout the year.

In Year 2, we journey back hundreds of years in History to learn about the first flights and to the mid-20th Century to find out about the local, but very famous, artist L.S.Lowry.  In English, we read some fantastic books such as Jack and the Baked Beanstalk and Winter’s Child, which will help us develop into amazing readers and super writers.  In science, we do lots of wonderful experiments and find out many marvellous facts.  The rest of the curriculum will be just as fantastic and I have no doubt you will learn lots of brilliant new things. You could log onto our school website to have a look at some of the other exciting things that we do in Year 2.

Each week, we give rewards such as Star of the Week, Hand writer of the Week, Special Mentions and children are put forward for Head teacher Awards.  We also have daily chances to earn ‘Good to be Green’ stickers for our bookmarks. In Year 2, we follow the Wardley Way which encourages us to be good friends, be courageous, show perseverance, be respectful and to trust one another.

Take a look at the pictures of our classroom, where we have working walls to help us with our day to day learning and we also have a reflection tree to help us to think about things like courage, responsibility, generosity and wisdom.

Year 3

Hello and welcome to Year 3,

My name is Mr Tinkler.  I will be your teacher when you start in Year 3.

I hope that you are as excited about joining our school as I will be to have you in my class.  I promise I will be try as hard as I can to ensure you work to the very best of your ability each day, and in everything you are presented with.  I also guarantee that you will have an exciting, fun-filled year.  There are so many fantastic topics and great books to read and I know you will love learning nearly as much as I love teaching them.

We will journey back thousands of years in History to learn about The Stone Age, The Bronze Age and The Ancient Egyptians. In English, we read some fantastic books such as Stone Age Boy, The Twits, The Pirate Cruncher and Jumanji which ties in nicely with some of our topic, and will help us develop into amazing readers and writers.  The rest of the curriculum will be just as fantastic and I have no doubt you will learn lots of wonderful new things.

During the week, I will provide you with a good daily routine, so you know exactly what we are doing each day. At the end of the week, we give rewards such as Star of the Week and Handwriter of the Week.  The class star will get to look after Brian Sockdog, our class mascot. I also set brain-teasing riddles, tell terrible jokes, and share lots of funny stories. We have so much to look forward to.

Year 3 will mainly be taught in the classroom but there will be opportunities to venture out and about when hopefully things get back to normal. There are some photographs to help you see what the classroom looks like.  You could even log onto our school website to have a look at the exciting learning that life in Year 3 brings.

Don’t forget, you will be bringing in a healthy snack from home to munch during playtime.

The most important thing is that you do NOT worry about anything.  I will be there to make sure your first day is a good one. And, of course, every other day too. I know that most of you will be excited and ready to return to school after your summer break.  That is how I feel.  However, I am also a little nervous too because it is a new start and some things will be different.  Some of you will have these feelings too. Please do not worry. I will be there to help you settle in and make sure you are as happy as can be.

Keep well and look after each other.

Love from Mr Tinkler X

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

In Year 4, we love to learn, be happy and have fun! We have lots of interesting topics to discover including the Romans and the Victorians, as well as learning about the water cycle and how mountains are formed. We love to do Science experiments too and learn all about how we hear, how we digest and will go on a bug hunt to teach us how to classify animals! One of the most exciting things about being in Year 4 is that every week we get to go swimming! The children love learning a very important life skill and it’s also great fun too. In Year 4, we are proud of being able to recall ALL of our times tables very quickly!

Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

In Year 5, we travel to space, visit the Vikings, spend time in The Alps and become automotive engineers through designing, developing and manufacture vehicles.

Other units include delving into Mexico and Central America, specifically The Maya civilization, we look at where our goods come from and we investigate living things and life cycles.

We create a safe environment in which everyone is valued, and where we understand that making mistakes is part of the learning process.

We are proud to represent Wardley and our Wardley values inside and outside of the school.  These values are reinforced through our PSHE units where we think of our goals and aspirations, and look at how to strengthen and develop the relationship with have with our peers.

In Year 5, we strive to achieve our potential; we persevere with challenges and celebrate our peers’ successes.

In Year 5, we can do all things.

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6.

We are the Senior Pupils here at Wardley CE Primary School and we are proud to represent our school.

We follow the school’s values which are trust, friendship, respect, courage and perseverance - this is our Wardley Way and we are pleased to be a part of a successful and happy school.

In Year 6 we are proud of our learning and progress; our books are beautiful and we all work extremely hard to maintain the high expectations of our teachers. We love to read and listen to our class novels.

We also love to draw; some of our art work is amazing. Hopefully you will have seen some of the photos of our artwork as it is displayed around the school building.

We are a hard-working and productive team who enjoy coming to school and being part of the Wardley family.

Stay positive and strive to reach your full potential – Love from Year 6.
