Year 5 2024 - 2025
Mr Houston
Welcome back and a Happy New Year
Welcome back! I hope you have had a great Christmas break, and that you are refreshed and ready for the challenges of the new term in Year 5.
We have so much to look forward to this half term. Have a look at the homework project and our curriculum newsletter for more information on what we will cover.
Our History unit will see us continuing with our study of Ancient Greece, Greek life, their achievements and their influences on the western world. We will spend time comparing the Ancient Maya civilisation and the Anglo-Saxons.
In Geography, we will use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied, and use the eight points of a compass, four and six-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build our knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world.
In science, we will look at Earth in space including all the forces at play.
Our main religion in RE this half term is Islam and we will be answering the unit question, 'What do Christians believe Jesus did to ‘save’ people?'
Returning to school after a break can be stressful for some. We have our well-being day on our first day back to ease you in. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, there are lots of people you can speak to.
